Think about that you want to be AE yourselves through Cataclysm content the way you do at the moment. If you do want AE, hunters will have the tools to do so. Under the situations where you have to AE, perhaps you will not want to try to CC. When you're back to the level of trivializing lower level content, nobody would think that hunter should not be brought and their AE spam is not spammy enough. It is not considered that breaking rogues out of stealth to be a good reason to keep Volley around.
For the above reason, the Multi-Shot of the spell hunters will be used for AE. Channeling a spell that makes arrows fall out of the sky doesn't feel like hunter ability and doesn't even really match the name of the spell. The producers may regret disclosing it again, though they might think it is a right thing to do. In the opinion, the Multi-Shot is a more interesting ability and can fill the hunter AE niche (along with Explosive Trap).
